US-based developer Electric Metals has unveiled an upgraded mineral resource estimate for its Emily manganese project, solidifying the Minnesota project as the continent’s “highest-grade manganese resource”. At a 10% cutoff grade, Emily’s indicated resources increased by 20.9% to 6.2-million tons, with a grade of 19.27% manganese. Inferred resources surged by 596.5% to 4.9-million tons, with a grade of 17.5%.

The Porgera Mine in Papua New Guinea is running without restriction and has enough fuel on site for 40 days, operator Barrick Gold said on Monday, after a massive landslide struck in the province the mine is located. The landslide in Enga province buried more than 2 000 people, the government said earlier on Monday, as treacherous terrain impeded aid and lowered hopes of finding survivors.

The Presidential Climate Commission (PCC) is currently assessing the impact of South Africa’s decision to delay the decommissioning of the Hendrina, Grootvlei and Camden coal-fired power stations on the country’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), which outlines the country’s decarbonisation goals. Eskom confirmed recently that Cabinet and board permission had been granted for the continued operation of the three power stations beyond their original decommissioning dates, owing to the ongoing shortage of supply and delays in adding new generation.

Uranium exploration company Madison Metals has reported that reverse circulation (RC) drill hole KM5RC003 at its Khan project, in Namibia, has intersected strong uranium mineralisation over mineable widths under trench area TR003. Spectrometer readings from chip-sample bags returned values as high as 1.36% triuranium oxide at 45 m and 1.54% at 148 m vertical depth from surface.
