Article Headline: Union outlines plan for saving domestic steel industry
Abstract: Trade union Solidarity on Thursday emphasised the importance of South Africa’s steel industry, stating that it is a “key enabler of every part of the South African economy – including the automotive, mining, construction, energy and infrastructure sectors, all of which have been identified as major growth drivers”. Speaking at the launch of its Save our Steel (SOS) campaign, in Centurion, Solidarity metal and steel industry general secretary Marius Croucamp noted that the top five steel consuming industries together contribute R600-billion to South Africa's gross domestic product (GDP) and employ more than eight-million people.
