 Abstract: There is little question that pressing ahead with South Africa’s infrastructure programme has become even more important amid the difficulties confronting the economy and key sectors such as mining and agriculture. The country’s mining industry is having to adjust to lower commodity demand and prices that are likely to remain lower for longer, while the farming sector is in distress as a result of South Africa’s worst drought in a generation. However, reigniting growth to levels required to avoid further job losses, social dissonance and the dreaded downgrade to South Africa’s investment-grade credit rating will require even higher levels of investment. Creamer Media's latest edition of the Projects in Progress supplement provides insight into some of the larger public and private projects being undertaken across South Africa, as well as selected economies in Central and West Africa, while demonstrating that serious gaps remain in progressing some important transformational projects from planning to implementation.
