Article Headline: Civil society organisations oppose coal IPP generation licence applications
Abstract: Civil society organisations will use next week’s public hearings into the generation licence applications for the Thabametsi and Khanyisa power station projects to raise their objections to the new coal-fired power stations that private developers plan to build in Limpopo and Mpumalanga. The Life After Coal Campaign, which comprises the Centre for Environmental Rights, Earthlife Africa Johannesburg and groundwork, said on Tuesday that it would challenge the applications for the new coal plants at the National Energy Regulator of South Africa’s (Nersa’s) public hearings on the grounds that the power stations would be harmful to the environment and human health.
