Canada-focused Metals Australia has received all the required permitting approvals for a new drilling and trenching programme at Corvette River, in Quebec. The programme, which will include 10 diamond drillholes for up to 4 750 m and about 16 trenches, will test high-grade gold and silver targets, as well as priority lithium-bearing pegmatite targets.

The Biden administration on Thursday proposed an end to future coal leasing on federal lands in Montana and Wyoming's Powder River Basin, the nation's most productive coal-producing region, in part because of the sector's emissions that worsen climate change. A scoping study completed by engineering firm Optimize Group suggests that electrifying the Elk Creek mine through a Railveyor system instead of using the currently planned vertical mining shafts will have economic and environmental benefits.

South African economic growth could be severely stunted if carbon taxes are widely imposed on its exports, according to a new report by the country’s central bank. The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) said the hit could reach 10% of exports and more than 9% of gross domestic product in 2050 under a worst-case scenario in which carbon taxes are slapped on all exports by all trading partners. But it also found the impact could be much lighter, in a summary of several studies into the implications of the European Union’a new Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism on South African exports.
