The company maintains its commitment to enriching lives for a sustainable future and its new ‘Always Moving’ slogan is aligned with the directive to keep assisting industries by providing them with technologically-advanced fuels, lubricants, chemicals and associated services.

As the important mineral component of its cement, limestone will soon be mined from a new deposit by aggregates and construction materials company AfriSam’s Ulco cement plant, in the Northern Cape. The relocated quarry will be capable of providing security of supply for about 40 years, and will need to deliver about two-million tonnes of limestone to Ulco each year.

Coal exploration and mining company Canyon Coal is focusing on maintaining steady-state coal production at its Khanye colliery in Bronkhorstspruit, Gauteng, with the former having made significant progress in the past six months by improving production through smarter operational management, improved planning and cost-saving initiatives. The company has also made headway in reaching final rehabilitation levels in all three of the colliery’s opencast sections, demonstrating its commitment towards environmental sustainability and responsible mining practices.

Clay brick and paver maker Corobrik reports that it has no intention of entering into the coal mining sector, despite its application to mine the commodity at its Centurion-based Rietvlei mine and plant. The company operates a clay mining operation near the ecologically-sensitive Rietvlei Nature Reserve and concerns were raised by the nearby community, reserve stakeholders and visitors when it came to their attention that Corobrik intended to apply for a licence to mine coal at its existing clay mine.

Underground construction employee dies at Harmony's Mponeng mine

Gold miner Harmony Gold Mining Company reports that an underground construction employee, working on planned rail maintenance, died at its Mponeng mine near Carletonville, in Gauteng, on May 1. The nature of the incident that led to the fatality is under investigation.
Diamcor announces C$1.5m private placement

Diamond mining company Diamcor Mining plans to complete a non-brokered private placement financing of up to C$1.5-million, and anticipates that an aggregate of up to C$1.25-million of the financing will be subscribed to by existing larger shareholders, management and directors. The company says the financing will consist of up to 30-million units at a price of C$0.05 each, with each unit consisting of one common share of the company and one common share purchase warrant.
