Icasa gazettes new call termination rates glide path

Real-time payments contribution to South Africa's GDP set to double by 2028

Payments technology company ACI Worldwide says in its 'Real-Time Payments: Economic Impact and Financial Inclusion' report that the contribution of real-time payments to South Africa's GDP is expected to more than double to $486-million by 2028. Real-time payments drive economic growth and give citizens access to fast and affordable financial services. The potential for banks extends beyond regions with large unbanked populations, the company notes.

Families of unlawfully convicted engineers call for their release before Christmas

The families of two South Africans, Frik Potgieter and Peter Huxham, have again pleaded with the Equatorial Guinea government to release the men, who have been detained in the country for 670 days, in time for Christmas. Potgieter and Huxham were arrested on fabricated charges in Equatorial Guinea on February 9, 2023.

Reatile Energy increases stake in CNG Holdings

Investment holding company Reatile Group subsidiary Reatile Energy has increased its stake in natural gas provider CNG Holdings to 61.36%, which Reatile Energy says further cements its commitment to advancing the role of natural gas in South Africa’s energy mix. This acquisition builds on Reatile Energy’s initial acquisition of a 25.01% stake in CNG in 2014.

Vinpro has positive outlook for this year’s wine grape season

WLGA releases roadmap to expand access to LPG for cooking across Africa

Partnership project showcases value-creating effluent treatment process at Eastern Cape brewery

Project Imifino was recently showcased at South African Breweries' (SAB’s) Ibhayi brewery site in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape as a viable model for effluent treatment in the food and beverage sector at industrial scale, including providing irrigation for agricultural purposes. This followed on the installation and commissioning of an innovative containerised ultrafiltration (UF) system to enhance the existing capabilities of Imifino, with grant funding and technical assistance from the Flanders-funded South African Industry Adaptation (SAIA) project. The SAIA project is jointly implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (Unido) with the National Cleaner Production Centre South Africa and the Technology Innovation Agency.
