Spearmint announces Clayton Valley lithium resource estimate

Canadian junior explorer Spearmint Resources can add its name to the list of companies with an in-ground resource estimate in Clayton Valley, Nevada, which continue to attract global attention as a sought-after lithium address in the US, hosting the only producing lithium deposit in North America. The company has unveiled a maiden resource estimate of one-million tonnes of lithium-carbonate equivalent (LCE) at its Clayton Valley Lithium Clay project. The estimate includes 815 000 indicated tonnes and 191 000 inferred tonnes.

World Bank president David Malpass and his senior management team, comprising Dr Axel van Trotsenburg and Dr Makhtar Diop, have met with the African Union’s Covid-19 Vaccine Acquisition Task Team (Avatt) to discuss modalities for a partnership that will accelerate vaccine deployment to Africa. In a historic Covid-19 vaccine procurement agreement signed on March 28, the Avatt had previously successfully secured up to 400-million doses of the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) single-shot Covid-19 vaccine with the support of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank).

A team from US-based defence engineering company Leidos, in partnership with South African aerospace and defence company Paramount Group, has been selected to enter the final phase of the US Special Operations Command’s (Socom’s) Armed Overwatch aircraft prototype programme. Leidos, Paramount US and Vertex were among five teams awarded a total of $19.3-million for prototype demonstrations and will advance the Bronco II aircraft to the third phase of operational prototype demonstration later in June.
New exploration alliance targets US copper deposits

LSE-listed Imperial X and TSX-V-listed Alianza Minerals on Tuesday announced a strategic alliance to explore for copper deposits in the US, with a focus on projects in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah. The two companies said the intended to identify new copper exploration opportunities to acquire and advance with the intent of finding a partner to further the projects.
NUM to march next month over rising unemployment in Mpumalanga

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) Highveld Region is preparing to march against continued retrenchments, outsourcing, use of labour brokers and the increasing unemployment rate in the Mpumalanga province. The march, to be held on July 15, will be targeted at State-owned utility Eskom, as well as diversified miners South32, Seriti Resources, AngloCoal, Exxaro Resources and various mining contractors operating in the province, the trade union says.

The Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (Appea) has unveiled the oil and gas industry’s first Social License report, which has shown that support for the industry was nearly two-and-a-half times higher than opposition. Appea CEO Andrew McConville said the report highlights how the oil and gas industry is building trust in the community as well as creating thousands of jobs and protecting the environment.

Democratic Republic of Congo's (DRC's) government said on Tuesday Fortescue Metals Group would develop the Grand Inga hydroelectric power project, including a 4,800-megawatt dam that has already been committed to Chinese and Spanish developers. Australia's Fortescue confirmed earlier on Tuesday that it was in talks with Congo to develop a series of dams that could become the world's largest hydroelectric project, but it said no formal binding agreement had been concluded.

The share price of Canadian minnow E79 Resources surged 240% to C$1.26 a share on Monday, as the company reported initial assay results from the first two drill holes at its Happy Valley gold prospect in Victoria, Australia. The two drill holes confirm extension of mineralised structures substantially below known historic mining levels at Happy Valley. HVD002 intersected gold about 60 m beneath known historic mining and HVD003 intersected gold about 80 m below that. Drill hole HVD003 confirmed a section of visible gold assaying at more than 78 oz/t, or 2 430 g/t.
