Chvaletice manganese gets ESIA nod

The Czech Environment Ministry has approved the environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) for the Chvaletice manganese project, TSX- and ASX-listed Euro Manganese reported on Wednesday.   The ESIA is the key gating permit from which subsequent permits can follow, including the land planning permit and construction permit. Receipt of the ESIA also allows the company to progress to the final determination of the mining lease for the project.

Karora Resources, a Western Australia-focused mining company listed on the TSX, announced on Wednesday that it has concluded discussions with Ramelius Resources and that it is now exploring potential merger opportunities with a new, undisclosed third party. Karora and Ramelius previously confirmed exclusive negotiations regarding a potential corporate transaction.
Don Lindsay Former Teck CEO joins BHP board as Cockerill exits

Global mining powerhouse BHP on Thursday announced that Don Lindsay, the former CEO of Teck Resources, would join its board on May 1 as a nonexecutive director. With a 17-year tenure at the helm of Teck, Lindsay brings to BHP a wealth of experience in global resource development, growth strategies and a steadfast commitment to community health, safety and education, said chairperson Ken MacKenzie in a statement.
Exploration starts at Larisoro manganese mine

Exploration activities have started at the Larisoro manganese mine, in Northern Kenya, with Marula Mining exploration East Africa head Collins Aseto and his geological team having mobilised to site last week. This comes after the March 1 announcement, where Marula said it was entering into a transaction with Gems and Industrial Minerals (GIM) to secure a commercial interest in Larisoro.

Canadian miner Alamos Gold has announced its acquisition of smaller rival Argonaut in an all-stock deal valued at $325-million. The move is poised to create a gold miner with a combined long-term production potential exceeding 900 000 oz/y. Central to the transaction is Alamos’ acquisition of Argonaut’s Magino mine, which is strategically located adjacent to its own Island Gold mine, in Ontario.

Northern Cape copper company Copper 360 announced on Wednesday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with DRDGOLD’s Far West Gold Recoveries tailings retreatment subsidiary to conduct a due diligence on its copper tailings dams to assess their economic copper recovery viability. During the due diligence period, Far West Gold Recoveries will, through an independent expert, determine the total tonnage of tailings material by Lider survey applying a density of 1.4 tonnes per cubic metre.

Zimbabwe Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Professor Mthuli Ncube and Zimbabwe Investment Development Agency CEO Tafadzwa Chinamo will host an investment summit at the Radisson Hotel, in Kempton Park, near OR Tambo International on May 2 and 3. The summit theme “People you can invest in” is inspired by the Zimbabwe idiom “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo or lizwe lakhiwa ngabanikazi balo”, which is loosely translated to mean “a country is built by its owners”.

Despite record renewable-energy installations of 473 GW last year, the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena) says the pace of deployment remains well below that needed to match the global goal of tripling capacity by 2030. In addition, the geographic distribution of new investment was highly uneven, with Africa lagging in particular. The ‘Renewable Capacity Statistics 2024’ report states that the installed renewables base climbed 13.9% to 3 870 GW in 2023, underpinned by solar photovoltaic (PV) installations, which surged by 32.2%, or 346 GW.
Initial work shows potential of deposit at Morocco project

Aim-listed Critical Mineral Resources (DMR)has announced positive initial work at its Ifri project, in the Anti-Atlas in Morocco, with prospecting by its geological team demonstrating copper and silver in multiple shear zone and quartz vein structures with some structures containing gold mineralisation. Channel samples include assay results of 3.1% copper and 17 g/t silver; 1.95% copper and 15 g/t silver; and 0.86 g/t gold and 21 g/t silver.
SARB Governor Lesetja Kganyago SARB keeps main interest rate unchanged, citing inflation risks

South Africa's central bank kept its key interest rate unchanged at 8.25% on Wednesday, saying that on balance risks to the inflation outlook were skewed to the upside. It was the fifth meeting in a row that the bank has maintained its repo rate at the same level. All economists polled by Reuters had forecast that the rate would be left unchanged.
