Despite a forecast of slowing oil demand and a likely peak in consumption by the end of the decade, the International Energy Agency (IEA) warned on Monday of heightened global oil security risks in the near term, owing to growing tensions in the Middle East. In a newsletter released only days after the publication of its latest monthly Oil Market Report, the IEA said the spike in Middle East tensions following Iran’s unprecedented air attacks on Israeli military facilities, raised the risk of increased volatility in oil markets.

ASX-listed Jupiter Mines lists in its inaugural sustainability report, published on April 15, key areas for emission reduction such as optimising fuel use, exploring regenerative braking systems in its truck fleet and implementing other energy-saving solutions. While this is Jupiter’s first sustainability report, a consistent focus on environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance has characterised the company’s activities, business relationships and operations since its inception, the company states.
Kin and PNX announce merger

Junior mining companies Kin Mining and PNX Metals on Monday announced their merger, creating a group with a combined mineral resource of 1.4-million ounces of gold, 16.2-million ounces of silver and 177 000 t of zinc. PNX shareholders will receive one fully paid ordinary share in KIN for every 13 fully paid ordinary PNX shares. On a like-for-like basis, this represents a 6.2% premium using the 30-day volume weighted average price of both companies’ shares respectively.

Seacom launches LEO satellite service for enterprise clients

Telecommunications and managed services provider Seacom has launched its low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite service for its enterprise clients after a two-year process of consultation with industry partners. LEO satellites orbit the Earth at an altitude of up to 2 000 km – the same altitude at which the International Space Station currently orbits – an area that is essential for economic-related activities such as communication, transportation and observation.
Copper output at Chile's Codelco set to rise this year, CESCO says

Chile's state-run copper miner Codelco is poised to improve production this year and begin to climb from its lowest dip in a quarter century, the head of Chilean copper studies center CESCO said ahead of a major industry conference that starts Monday. Codelco is aiming to produce between 1.325-million and 1.390-million metric tons of copper this year, a target that at best would see it lightly overtake its 2023 output of 1.325-million metric tons.

The differential between per capita income growth in the poorest countries and the richest has widened over the past five years, according to the report.

Russian aluminium giant Rusal said on Monday that new sanctions on Russian metals introduced by the United States and Britain will have no impact on its ability to supply aluminium to world markets. Washington and London on Friday prohibited metal-trading exchanges from accepting new aluminium, copper and nickel produced by Russia and barred the import of the metals into the United States and Britain.
