Sierra Metals' Bolivar mine Sierra records 36% y/y increase in first-quarter copper production

For the first quarter of this year, TSX-listed copper producer Sierra Metals has recorded a 36% year-on-year increase in consolidated copper production of 11.2-million pounds from its two underground mines in South America, the Yauricocha polymetallic mine, in Peru, and the copper-producing Bolivar mine, in Mexico. Silver production was also up 10% year-on-year, while gold production increased by 19% and lead production by 10%.
Xanadu engages Bacchus Capital as strategic, project funding adviser

ASX- and TSX-listed exploration company Xanadu Mines has engaged financial consultant Bacchus Capital Advisers as its strategic and project funding adviser in relation to the Kharmagtai copper/gold project, in the South Gobi region of Mongolia. Xanadu is executing a prefeasibility study (PFS) at Kharmagtai – a 50:50 joint venture with Zijin Mining Group.

JSE plans overhaul to encourage smaller listings

The operator of the JSE has proposed easing some listing requirements in a bid to encourage smaller companies to the bourse, removing some of the red tape it says has become an obstacle. The exchange intends to split its main board into two — what it called a Prime Segment and a General Segment — as part of efforts to streamline regulations to better suit the needs of smaller firms, the JSE said in a statement.

The emerging use of electrofuel (eFuel) as an interchangeable substitute for petrol, diesel and aviation fuel has the potential to create important new demand for Southern Africa’s platinum group metals (PGMs). This is because eFuel is a combination of green hydrogen and waste carbon dioxide (CO2) and demand for PGMs will arise when proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysers are used to generate the green hydrogen. Chile's State-run copper miner Codelco must focus on boosting its production, but it has a global prestige that would not be tarnished if it cedes its role as Chile's top producer to rival BHP, Mining Minister Aurora Williams said on Thursday. Codelco, the world's largest copper producer and a symbol of national pride, is aiming this year to reverse two years of falling production in a bid to not only boost profits but also buttress Chile's sway over global markets.

Multinational boiler manufacturer Nexson Group says its acquisition of German quality-plate heat exchanger manufacturer Thermowave GmBH as a stand-alone entity will strengthen and complement its portfolio, particularly Thermowave’s gasketed and semi-welded plate heat exchangers, which the group notes as key process components with technological superiority and innovation. Thermowave was a part of leading Germany-based refrigeration components provider, Gunter Group.

Metair is still very much open for business and the group is able to accommodate new clients should they need automotive components or energy storage solutions, says new CEO Paul O’Flaherty. O’Flaherty, now two months into the job after former CEO Sjoerd Douwenga bowed out, owing to health reasons, comes to Metair with executive experience at companies such as Absa, Group Five, ArcelorMittal and Eskom.
