Company to triple battery, solar energy storage electronics capacity

Energy technology company General Electric (GE) is tripling manufacturing capacity for its solar and battery energy storage power electronics systems by the end of this year to 9 GW/y, linked to strong growth in backlogs over the past few months and a robust demand outlook. The systems are manufactured at GE’s newly launched Renewable Hybrids factory in Vallam, near Chennai, India.

Research company ResearchAndMarkets’ 2022 report shows that the global battery energy storage system (BESS) market is expected to grow from $4.4-billion in 2022 to $15.1-billion by 2027, at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 27.9%. The growth of this market is mainly driven by the increasing demand for grid energy storage systems owing to ongoing grid modernisation, growing penetration of lithium-ion batteries in the renewable energy sector, and the rising trend of low-carbon and less fossil fuel-based economies and the ongoing renewable energy revolution.

Steel and tube supplier Stewarts & Lloyds Pipes & Fittings have successfully delivered over 1.4 km of pipe to a project in Tshwane – cementing its position as a leading pipe supplier in Africa. The project entailed the supply of about 70 pipes of 800 nominal bore (NB) in lengths of 12.19 m, with an outside diameter of 813 mm, as well as about 45 pipes of 500 NB, also in 12.19 m lengths, with an outside diameter of 508 mm.

Specialist pumps supplier Integrated Pump Rentals (IPR) says it carries a comprehensive range of pump flotation devices (PFD) and hose flotation devices (HFD) which are available for either purchase or hire. IPR operations manager Henru Strydom explains that a PFD is used to suspend the pump during pumping operations and is done to prevent the pump from burrowing into the bottom of the dam, stopes or pond where dewatering is being done.

Hino South Africa (SA) has restarted truck assembly at its plant in the Toyota Prospecton manufacturing complex, in Durban, following extensive flooding in April. The remainder of the Toyota plant remains in recovery mode.
