Published: 01 Jul 22
Mechanical seals, pumps and complementary pumps products supplier Mechanical Rotating Solutions (MRS) replaced expeller seals on centrifugal pumps at a coal mining company’s facility, in Mpumalanga, at the end of April and beginning of May; the pumps were registering poor mean time between failures. The pumps were originally sealed using conventional mechanical packing that, along with poor adherence to the packing schedule, caused excessive slurry leakage and, consequently, damage to the pump bearings, owing to water ingress, MRS CEO Franscois Steenkamp explains.

But this is not the case, states OIM Consulting MD Arjen de Bruin, whose company has been acknowledged by gold mining major Gold Fields for the significant role it played in South Deep’s turnaround following “a remarkable improvement in most production metrics during 2019”, resulting in a net profit of more than R104-million.

A key element of the newly unveiled National Rail Policy (NRP) is the acceptance of private-sector investment and participation, as well as economic regulations that ensure fair and regulated access to South Africa’s primary and secondary rail networks.
