Vale Indonesia shareholders approve rights issue plan

Shareholders of nickel miner PT Vale Indonesia approved a rights issue that will facilitate the acquisition of a stake by Indonesia state mining holding company MIND ID, the company said in a statement late on Friday. Vale Canada and Japan's Sumitomo Metal Mining had agreed to sell 14% of the Indonesian unit to MIND ID to fulfil a divestment requirement to secure new mining permit.

Western Australian gold miner Ramelius Resources has posted record gold production of 86 928 oz in the March quarter. This has prompted the company to revise its full-year guidance, now forecasting a range of between 285 000 oz and 295 000 oz, surpassing the previous target of between 265 000 oz and 280 000 oz and the initial guidance set at 250 000 oz to 275 000 oz issued in July last year.

Commodities giant South32 said on Monday that manganese ore exports from Groote Eylandt mine, in the Northern Territory, were likely to remain suspended until 2025 owing to extensive damaged caused by a tropical cyclone last month. The cyclone, which ravaged the region on March 16 and 17, unleashed unprecedented rainfall of 681 mm coupled with powerful wind gusts, making the second strongest cyclone to hit the area in the past two decades.

South Africa is seeking potential minority investors and access to capital markets and loan financing for South African Airways (SAA) for more rapid expansion, following the collapse of a previous equity deal, the national flag carrier’s interim Chairman Derek Hanekom said on local broadcaster eNCA. The airline had to revise its expansion plans after talks were scrapped and has now delayed opening more international routes to London, Frankfurt and North America, Hanekom said.

The Utilities for Net Zero Alliance (Uneza) has adopted a roadmap to 2030, targeting a total increase of renewable energy capacity within their portfolios to 749 GW by 2030, an increase of 2.5 times relative to 2023. The alliance members’ joint renewables ambition was announced this week alongside a grid infrastructure action plan.
GoviEx in talks with Niger govt on Madouela start date

TSX-V listed GoviEx Uranium is in discussions with the government of Niger regarding the start of mining operations after having received notice that it must begin mining at its Madaouela uranium project by July 3, or risk having its mine permit revoked. The company says it is committed to developing the project and is working with the Nigerien government towards a mutually beneficial solution that complies with applicable law and protects the company’s rights.
Goldplat receives generators for its South African operations

Aim-listed Goldplat reports that diesel generators have arrived at its operations in South Africa, and that their commissioning will be finalised by the end of April. The company points out that, during the third quarter of the current financial year, its operations have lost 6% of total operating hours available owing to electricity supply cuts and infrastructure related issues, lower than the time lost in the previous calendar year of more than 20%.

Independent commodity research group CPM Group managing partner Jeffrey Christian has dispelled some of the common myths in the platinum market, which can lead to bad investment decisions on the part of producers, investors, governments and other financing sources. “There are high costs to making financial decisions based on a desired future rather than a realistically probable future based on an erroneous understanding of present market conditions and probable outcomes,” he explains in a market alert issued on April 19.
