South Africa’s gas industry is on the cusp of great growth and expansion in light of a potential global oversupply of shale gas. As a result, local plastic pipe manufacturers have to ensure that the pipes used in gas pipelines have been manufactured according to stringent specifications and adhere to global standards, says Southern African Plastic Pipe Manufacturers Association (Sappma) CEO Jan Venter. Venter explains that the Department of Energy has confirmed the potential development of regional gas fields, which will lead to natural gas becoming a more important fuel in South Africa.
