A 100 MW solar plant, which has been developed near the town of Pofadder, in the Northern Cape, has officially been inaugurated. Known as KaXu Solar One, the thermal electricity power plant incorporate a storage system that enables it to produce electricity 2.5 hours after sunset, or before dawn. The R8-billion parabolic-trough facility is 3 km long, a kilometre wide and contains 1 200 collectors, as well as molten-salt energy-storage system
