While South Africa continues to struggle to grow the economy, the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (Sacci’s) Business Confidence Index (BCI) remained steady in December, recording only a marginal month-on-month decline of 0.1 index points to 93.8. Sacci pointed out that the ten-point year-on-year decline of December 2015 had reversed, with a year-on-year increase of 1.6 index points recorded in December 2016. This is the first time since February 2015 that the Sacci BCI improved on a year-on-year basis.
