On 29 October, the City of Tshwane will be hosting the annual Tshwane Green Ride, which is a cycling event with the purpose to mobilise communities to consider alternative transport, incite and promote cycling infrastructure while at the same time promoting healthy lifestyles through cycling. This cycling event is part of the Tshwane Green Outreach Programme, and falls within the 2016 National Transport Month. The objective of the ride is to demonstrate that cycling is a mode of transport that can be used in any environment (namely that it should not be treated as an elite sport only) and to highlight the importance of appropriate infrastructure so that people from all walks of life may have the choice to cycle, whether it be for recreational purposes or a safe form of commuting.
