Rio Tinto and Sinosteel extend Pilbara JVBy:Creamer Media Senior Deputy Editor: Australasia IRON-ORE Mining giant Rio Tinto has inked a heads of agreement (HoA) with Sinosteel Corporation to extend the Channar Mining iron-ore joint venture (JV), in the Pilbara.
The original Channar JV was signed in 1987 and provided for the production of 200-million tonnes of iron-ore. It was extended in 2010 to produce a further 50-million tonnes of iron-ore.
