Powertech re-enters arc furnace market with R42m Namakwa Sands contract

JSE-listed Allied Electronics subsidiary Powertech Transformers on Thursday announced that it has reentered the arc furnace market, reestablishing its position as the only South African manufacturer designing, building and testing arc furnace transformers locally. Powertech stated that a R42-million manufacturing mandate from Tronox Mineral Sands to produce two arc furnace transformers of 60 MVA, 33 kV and 33 kA for its Namakwa Sands operation, in the Western Cape, had enabled the company to take this step.
