Construction workers pictured above build new track as part of renovation works aimed at boosting peak-time capacity by 30% at the London Waterloo train station, in the UK capital. The £800-million- renovation will open four platforms mothballed since Channel Tunnel express trains switched to St. Pancras station and extend four more. However, rail passengers also face weeks of disruption, with the revamp resulting in the closure of ten platforms to allow contractors to prepare them for longer trains. As construction work began earlier this month there were reports of confusion, overcrowding, delays and high levels of commuter frustration.
