Published: 29 Mar 24
A successful shaft sinking project entails the correct installation of various components timeously, in addition to experienced personnel working on the project from the outset and maximising the time spent at shaft bottom, says fastener supplier Swagefast sales manager Neil Koen. The company’s involvement in projects such as the K4 Shaft at diversified miner Ivanhoe Mines’ Platreef platinum group metals and nickel mine, in Limpopo, underscores the importance of specialised suppliers in ensuring the integrity and success of complex engineering projects, such as shaft sinking, he adds.

Europe’s energy demand boosts Africa’s importance
Published: 22 Mar 24
Ongoing geopolitical tensions and conflicts – such as the war between Ukraine and Russia, and trade tensions between China and the US – are increasing the trend of European countries investing in countries on the African continent for new and/or replacement energy sources, but also manufacturing facilities in different sectors, says logistics company DHL Global Forwarding Middle East and Africa CEO Amadou Diallo. Consequently, there will be new opportunities for DHL in the Middle Eastern and African market, as for example, Europe aims to retract from using Russian energy, supply such as gas, and explore new sources of, or locations for, energy.
Vested and corrupt interest are main drivers for stripping SA of its mineral resources
Published: 21 Mar 24
The cost of illegal mining is estimated to be over R70 billion annually in gold alone and resulting in huge losses of revenue for both government and the mining sector. Other than the financial impact, the safety and security of communities and the core of our country is under attack, being stripped of its resources, therefore, Pinpoint Stewards will be hosting the 3rd Annual Mine Security Conference that takes place on 19-20 June, Indaba Hotel, Johannesburg. The two-day conference will focus on protecting mineral resources & infrastructure by applying stronger mine security measures through intelligence sharing.
